Can Coranti and other antivirus software be used at the same time?

Unlike other antivirus applications, Coranti is written in such a way that it will almost always install on systems that already have an antivirus application running. This is a big advantage when testing the Coranti trial version as you do not have to necessarily uninstall your current antivirus solution. However, some side effects can be observed in cases that Coranti and the other installed antivirus software try to scan a file at the same time and are configured to treat found viruses/threats in different ways.

If possible, please consider uninstalling any existing antivirus software. If you decide to purchase Coranti during or after the trial period, we strongly recommend you then uninstall any other installed antivirus application to optimize your system’s performance and ensure the logical operation of Coranti.

Which scan engines are included in Coranti 2010 and are their capabilities fully utilized?

Coranti includes the following scan engines and uses them simultaneously at their full potential: BitDefender (AV), F-Prot (AV), Lavasoft (AV) and Lavasoft (AS). With each engine having its own individual strengths, the concurrent and parallel use of all engines provides a maximum layer of protection not only for on-demand scanning but also for realtime protection and zero-day attacks.

Has Coranti been tested by leading independent security testlabs?

Yes, Coranti has been tested by Virus Bulletin and won the prestigious VB100 award in June 2010, December 2010, and April 2011.

What does “Coranti” mean?

“Coranti” is pronounced “core” + “anti” (as in “anticipate”). Coranti develops highly advanced security technologies that puts our products at the very heart and center of the defense against malware. Bringing together multiple scan engines from renowned security companies with their comprehensive mix of methodologies and technologies inside their respective scan-engines into one core solution, creates a very powerful anti-malware product that detects known and proactively detects unknown viruses and spyware.

Coranti uses virus and spyware signatures to detect malware. How can it detect new and unknown malware (“zero day malware”)?

When dealing with unknown and potentially dangerous malware (“zero day malware”), Coranti  relies on the internal capabilities of each individual scan-engine implemented.  Each scan-engine has different capabilities in combating “zero day malware” threats use various technologies and techniques to combat this threat.  Such technologies and techniques have considerably high levels of sophistication and effectiveness.  These are not only so-called “heuristics” features, but also sophisticated “emulators” and “sandboxing” technologies and techniques that individual scan-engines use internally during the scanning process, both on-demand and in real-time (on-access).

This means that files are not only scanned against known malware signatures, but there is also an attempt to analyze the behavior of the active content of the files in run-time.  Both the scanning against known signatures, as well as the behavioral analysis, is performed by four uniquely powerful anti-malware engines working concurrently, in parallel, and in perfect sync.”

Functionality

What is the difference between on-access and on-demand scanning?

On-access scanning is done by Coranti, which scans files for viruses in real time, when opened, saved and run.

On-demand scanning, on the other hand, is done manually. You can select the drives and folders you want to scan.

Why are there no options to choose from when a virus is detected?

If a virus was found in real time while opening, saving or running a file (on-access scanning mode), the virus will always be removed per default. Options are only available when viruses are found when manually scanning files and folders (on-demand mode).

Can I scan files/folders without having to respond to dialogs?

No, when scanning your files/folders (on-demand mode), you will be prompted to decide what to do in case any viruses or suspicious files are found.

Why are some options grayed out when a virus or threat is detected?

Depending on the type of virus or threat found, only a specific set of actions are effective. Any action that does not make sense given the issue found, will be grayed out. The “clean” action for example is never offered in case trojans or spyware is found. Similarly, the “delete” action will be grayed out, in case you have no user rights to remove an infected file.

How do I remove files from quarantine that I know not to be infected?

It can happen that some files are incorrectly flagged as infected and sent to quarantine. If you are confident that a file is not infected, you can restore this file from quarantine and add the file to the Exclusion Mask. The exclusion mask defines a whitelist of files that will not be picked up as being infected.

To restore files from quarantine you need to open Quarantine, select the files you are confident not to be infected and Restore them. To include the files in the Exclusion Mask you need to open AntiVirus Scanner, select AntiVirus Scanner Settings and in a the new window select Exclusion Mask. These files will not be sent to quarantine in future. ”

How often is the definitions database updated?

Coranti’s Definition Database updates occur in  real-time, Whenever the vendors of the anti-malware core scan engines used in Coranti publish updates. The frequency can vary from time to time.

Does Coranti include a firewall?

No, Coranti s a dedicated antivirus and antispyware solution which uses multiple scanning engines from world-class anti malware scanning engine providers simultaneously. Coranti is compatible with the majority of third party Firewall solutions (including free solutions)  and has been tested thoroughly with Microsoft’s native Windows Firewall.

Can Coranti detect active rootkits?

Coranti is able to detect and disinfect Rootkits as files during the scan process (either On-Demand or On-Access scanning). It does not have the functionality to detect active Rootkits by other means.

Coranti has found a virus in the System Restore folder. I am unable to delete the file. How can I delete the file permanently?

Based on Microsoft’s implementation, removing files permanently from system restore requires some manual work. The steps are to disable system restore, then perform a scan for viruses again, and then select to remove the detected virus.

For more details on how to disable system restore, please refer to this article on an external site:

The installation stops with the message that the TrueVector Device Driver is installed on my system. What is this and how do I install Coranti?

TrueVector Device Driver (filename: vsdatant.sys) is a system driver that is used by some 3rd party applications such as Zone Alarm or Cisco VPN Client. TrueVector Device Driver version older than 9.1.503.0  is not compatible with Coranti. Please update this driver to the latest version. You can find out more information about updating the driver on the support pages of Zonelabs and Cisco. When Coranti is installed, it will automatically download the latest anti-malware definition files from the Coranti download server.
